Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site, written by Sherri Duskey Rinker and illustrated by Tom Lichtenheld

It seems like Tom Lichtenheld is everywhere these days. He has illustrated three books by Amy Krouse Rosenthal, including the hilarious Duck! Rabbit!, Chris Barton's hilarious Shark vs Train and his own wonderful Cloudette. Now he tackles construction vehicles with a rhyming text by Sherri Duskey Rinker. Much as I thought when I read Chris Gall's excellent Dinotrux for the first time in 2009, Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site made me slap my head and exclaim, "Why hasn't anyone thought of this before?"

Sherri Duskey Rinker's rhymes are sturdy and gentle, much like the trucks that Lichtenheld brings to life. Of the crane truck Rinker writes, "He slowly folds his boom back in,/ And then with one last sleepy grin,/ He tucks himself in nice and tight (sigh!),/ Then cuddles up and says goodnight." Each poem about a truck ends with the quiet, "Shh . . . goodnight, goodnight."

I can't think of a better way to send your little vehicle lover off into a truck filled dreamland!
