Shameless Self-Promotion...

Some good news and some sad news,
some great news and some fantastic news:

Sad News: The winners of the goodreads IBBA contest were announced today (FINALLY - more than a week after the advertised date) and I did not win. You can click HERE to find out the winners in all four categories. Congratulations to The Nerdy Book Club, which was started in December of last year and is authored by three teachers.

Good News:  I made it to the top 15 thanks to your votes!!! Thank you to everyone who voted, joined goodreads so you could vote and asked all your friends to vote for me. Your votes put me in the top 15 of over 340 kid's book blogs that entered! I had no idea I had so many readers and friends. That makes the loss so much easier to bear.

Great News:  I AM GOING TO HAVE A LETTER TO THE EDITOR PUBLISHED IN THE NEW YORK TIMES BOOK REVIEW SUNDAY, MAY 27!!!! This is huge for me. Sure, not as huge as having an actual BOOK REVIEW published in the NYTimes (or anywhere, for that matter) but it's pretty exciting. Definitely the biggest media event for books4yourkids.com since I was interviewed by Michele Norris on All Things Considered to discuss The Diary of a Wimpy Kid right before the author.

Last Sunday, I wrote a letter to the editor of the book review criticizing Adam Gopnik's review of The Hero's Guide to Saving Your Kingdom by Chris Healy (which I happened to be in the middle of writing my own review of) and The False Prince by Jennifer Neilsen. I realize that not everyone who reads my blog subscribes to The NY Times and/or can read it on line, so, this Sunday I will run my review of the book and my letter to the editor (which was, sadly, edited of all my really clever writing.)

Fantastic News: I am going to the SCBWI Summer Conference in August this year! For those of you who don't know, the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators is a fantastic group that offers all kinds of support for writers, authors and anyone else, and holds two conferences a year. I had to save all my pennies and then some, but I get to spend three days listening to fascinating people (authors, illustrators, editors, agents, publishers) talk about kid's books. Among many luminaries, I will have the opportunity to listen to Tony DiTerlizzi, Gary SChmidt, Karent Cushman, Patricia MacLachlan, Jordan Brown (editor of Chris Healy's book and head of Walden Pond Press), Clare Vanderpool, Dan Gutman, Jay Asher, to name just a few. Best of all, I get to stay in a swanky hotel room ALL BY MYSELF!!!
