Following in the illustrious footsteps of Kate DiCamillo, Walter Dean Myers, Katharine Paterson and Jon Sciescka, Printz winner Gene Luen Yang has been appointed National Ambassador for Young People's Literature by the Children's Book Council. This is exciting for a lot of reasons, but especially, for me, as a huge fan, because Yang is a graphic novelist, the first to hold this appointment!

Of Yang's appointment, previous ambassador Kate DiCamillo said, "Gene Yang is a talented writer. He is a brilliant artist. His stories are thought-provoking, genre-bending, utterly original examinations of the human heart. In short, Gene Yang is a Renaissance man. I am so honored to pass the torch  of this sacred task to Gene. No one is better suited for bringing us all together." So well said. I can't wait to see what Yang brings to his term!

For more about Yang, read my reviews of his books (links below) and check out this brief interview with the CBC.
