The title, subtitle and the video really say it all. There's not much more I could write about Beautiful Oops! that could add to this. I will tell you that, as a person who usually eschews pop-up books and the like (Beautiful Oops! is really "the like" in this case) I would not hesitate to give this to an artistically minded child between the ages of 4 and 13, or an artistically minded parent. Every page of this book is an art project waiting to happen and Beautiful Oops! just oozes ideas and creativity of the most playful kind. In fact, Saltzberg's book reminds me very much of the work an author I featured in a post on Great Books for Summer and Travel, Keri Smith, if her work was geared for little kids. Smith's books, like Wreck this Journal, How to be an Explorer of the World: Portable Life Museum and This is Not a Book are all out-of-the-box creativity boosters. In fact, her newest book is called Mess: The Manual of Accidents and Mistakes. So, sit back, read the subtitle and enjoy the video and jaunty accompanying song. Then think of someone you can give this book to then buy one of Keri Smith's books for yourself!
