STACK the CATS by Susie Ghahremani

STACK the CATS by Susie Ghahremani is brilliant! I must confess to being a cat person and therefore predisposed to loving this marvelously illustrated book filled with adorable cats. However, Ghahremani, creator of Boygirlparty, a website selling over 300 paper goods and gifts, all bearing her lovely illustrations, does something so playful and out of the ordinary with this counting from 1 - 10 book, making STACK THE CATS so much more than a cute cat story.
STACK THE CATS begins, "One cat sleeps. Two cats play. Three cats? STACK!" Counting up, we learn that, "Six cats prefer two stacks of three cats."
The creative counting continues until you get to 10, which is, "just too many!" Subtracting cats, there are naps and hide-and-seek until those cats are stacking again! Interestingly, there is only one time in STACK THE CATS that numerals appear on the page. Yet, numbers and adding and subtracting are everywhere. I hope that Ghahremani's creative wheels are spinning right now because it's impossible to read STACK THE CATS without wanting to have some toy cats on hand to stack. Who needs Tsum Tsums when you can stack cats?
