The New LiBEARian by Alison Donald, illustrated by Alex Willmore

How could I not review The New LiBEARian by Alison Donald, illustrated by Alex Willmore? Libraries, fairy tales and bears are hard to pass up, even if it repeats a common mispronunciation of the word librarian...
It's story time at the library, by Ms. Merryweather is nowhere to be found! The children follow footprints throughout the library, in and out of bookshelves, "through a galaxy, into and ocean and down a runway." Clues lead the little sleuths to a NEW librarian!
Desperate for their story, the children convince the bear to read to them, despite seeming reluctance. The kids want something different, something exciting- something scary. This gets the bear excited! Picking up a book on bears, roaring, growling, stomping and more roaring ensues. When Ms. Merryweather finally returns (she was dealing with a volcano eruption in the Ancient History section) she begins reading the story of the day - Goldilocks and the Three Bears. But, Baby Bear is missing from the story! Ms. Merryweather coaxes Baby Bear back into the book only to learn that Goldilocks is missing. The final two page spread shows all kinds of things erupting from the books on the shelves, along with a familiar looking girl with blond ringlets...
