Myth Match: A Fantastical Flipbook of Extraordinary Beasts by Good Wives and Warriors

Myth Match: A Fantastical Flipbook of Extraordinary Beasts is a stunningly beautiful book created  by the very cool collective, Good Wives and Warriors. Becky Bolton and Louise Chappell have been designing large scale installations for fine arts settings and undertaking illustration commissions from diverse sources.

Just opening this book will make you want to run for your Sharpies and get drawing - it's that inspirational.  And, like all good flipbooks, the text can be divided to create new descriptions of mythical creatures. Starting with dragon, this "divine mythical creature has the head of a mighty lizard, a giant reptilian body and tail, and a covering of glinting scales. I can control floods and typhoons, and snorts smoke and red-hot fire."
Flipping one half of the page, you create a GRIFgon. This legendary beast has, "the head of a mighty lizard, the body and back legs of a lion, and a covering of glinting scales. It can fly with powerful wings, and snorts smoke and red-hot fire." Subtle changes in the text, but vivid and startling changes in the illustrations!

There are 32 beasts in Myth Match: A Fantastical Flipbook of Extraordinary Creatures and endless combinations to create - over 1,000, as the book claims. Creatures from Africa and Egypt to Mongolia, China, Japan, North America and Brazil are included as are legends from Greek, Norse, Indian, Inuit, Aztec, Celtic and Ancient Persian mythologies. And, of course, favorites like the unicorn, phoenix, and kraken are included as well.

I am sure that the illustrations will tell you everything you need to know about Myth Match: A Fantastical Flipbook of Extraordinary Creatures, but if you need to hear it from me one more time, buy this book for yourself or anyone you know who loves mythical creatures, lovely design and phenomenal illustrations - all for under $20.00!
