Why Read? Why Buy?: In a time when kid's biographies are bursting with a new creativity in content and design, the Little Guides to Great Lives surprisingly brings something new and beautiful to this genre. With a small but wonderful trim size of 6" x 8", each title in this first series is written by Isabel Thomas. And, at 64 pages (twice the length of a traditional picture book) each book provides an impressive amount of information with the first page of each book puts the subject into context, historically, politically, artistically and scientifically. Superb illustrations on every page follow the subject from childhood to death. When possible, quotes from the subject are included in the book and in a font color that matches the cover of the book. Illustrations also include word bubbles and fact chunks as well as representations of notebooks, journals, letters and diaries that make the books even more visually interesting. Back matter includes a timeline that ends with a representation of the subject, a photograph when possible, at the end of the timeline, a well as a glossary and an index.
